Manchester City’s situation could trigger a major earthquake in the transfer market. The English club has been found guilty of serious financial breaches and is now awaiting its punishment. For now, Manchester City have not been relegated. The final punishment has yet to be determined, with several scenarios possible, including a points deduction large enough to send the club tumbling down the table.
Could PSG make a move for Haaland?
Such a decision could nevertheless have huge consequences for City’s squad, starting with Erling Haaland. The Norwegian is under contract until 2034 and reportedly does not have a clause allowing him to leave automatically in the event of relegation. There are currently no known negotiations between PSG and Haaland linked to Manchester City’s situation, but Paris would logically be among the small number of clubs with the financial power and sporting ambitions required to consider such a deal.
Haaland’s name has already been linked with Paris in the past. His father, Alf-Inge Haaland, recently left the door slightly open to PSG by saying that “nothing is impossible” in football. Real Madrid and FC Barcelona have also regularly been associated with the striker, while several major English clubs could monitor his situation if Manchester City were actually relegated.
For now, however, Haaland is not on the market. City would remain in a strong position because of his long-term contract and could demand an enormous fee to sell him. Relegation would inevitably change the situation, though, and PSG could then make enquiries alongside Europe’s other giants. At this stage, Haaland moving to Paris remains a hypothesis rather than a concrete transfer target, with everything potentially depending on the punishment handed to Manchester City.
