Stunning upset for PSG in the Club World Cup. Despite dominating possession and chances, Paris Saint-Germain were stunned 1-0 by Botafogo, the Brazilian club owned by John Textor, in Pasadena on Friday. A single lapse in defense was enough for Igor Jesus to strike in the 36th minute, giving the Brazilians the lead — and ultimately, the win.
Botafogo’s compact block and excellent organization frustrated Luis Enrique’s men, who struggled in the final third. Barcola thought he had equalized late on, but his goal was ruled out for offside.
Pressure is now on PSG, who must beat Seattle on Monday to secure a place in the Round of 16. A shock exit looms if they don’t respond.
