As a series of matches approaches, eight games in two months, plus the Coupe de France and the Intercontinental Cup — Luis Enrique has not hidden his concerns about his team’s preparation, which has been completely disrupted by the international break.
The international break is over. However, not all players returned this week. Between rest, travel, and recovery, PSG has still been operating with a limited squad. The Spanish coach explained that he experienced a return… with almost no one:
“There are very few players left during the international break; often they work at home. Yesterday, upon their return, they got back in touch with the ball, but you can’t do anything tactically. It was a… different session. I like to have all my players for a training session.”
It is impossible to properly prepare
The situation was even more extreme the day before, as he recounts: “Yesterday we trained with six players and three goalkeepers, so I don’t know… We will have to wait for the afternoon session to see who will be available.”
In other words: it is impossible to properly prepare for such a dense block of competitions. And the schedule won’t help: “We will play eight matches and we will play the Coupe de France and the Intercontinental Cup. It’s a period of matches as usual, but we have one more match than after the other breaks.”
With a reduced squad, injuries, and a fragmented return, Luis Enrique is moving forward in the fog… just before the most intense sprint of the season.
