PSG. “I am not a doctor”: Luis Enrique’s cold response on Dembélé’s return

Two days before PSG’s return to Ligue 1 against Le Havre, Luis Enrique held a dense press conference, where he spoke about rugby, stands, expectations, individual trophies, injuries, and concentration after the break, all with several strong statements that reveal his state of mind.

On his inspirations for going up to the stands, the Spaniard surprised: “I mentioned rugby because it’s a sport I don’t know but I like. I admire how they manage emotions and that energy.” He also admits to watching matches from above whenever he can: “It’s important… I’m simply trying to do everything I can to improve my performance.”

When asked about young Ibrahim Mbaye, he refused to change his approach: “I cannot be more demanding with him… I will ask him for the same things as before.” Luis Enrique also reflected on his personal development as a coach: “In my first year, I did like the coaches I admired… After that, it’s experience.”

But his pressure point today clearly concerns individual awards: “I am worried about the noise around the team and individual prizes. This is a team sport… Fewer awards and more focus.” He even refuses to evaluate Joao Neves: “If I rank him, then you will ask me about Fabian Ruiz, Warren, Mayulu…”

Dembélé, not sure…

Regarding Le Havre, the coach is wary of a tricky match: “The first matches after the break… it’s easy not to be focused enough. It will be difficult.”

On the return of Ousmane Dembélé, Luis Enrique remains cautious: “I don’t know, I am not a doctor. He is improving his fitness. Maybe he will start training. We need to stay attentive and I will see how he is in training. In the coming weeks, we will see Ousmane Dembélé on the field.” He also explained that he worked with a very small group during the break: “There are very few players left… tactically, you can’t do much.”

About Marquinhos, who is set to reach 500 matches, he emphasizes: “His professional quality is top… we need to talk to him to manage the next eight matches.” Finally, he praised Achraf Hakimi, who has recently been rewarded: “He is not just a full-back; he does everything.”

A comprehensive statement, sometimes sharp, where Luis Enrique reminded that PSG must be focused, united, and demanding to tackle a very busy month of competition.
