Paris Saint-Germain lifted another UEFA Super Cup after defeating Aston Villa 2-1 in Salzburg. It was far from a comfortable evening for Luis Enrique’s side, who were seriously tested in the first half before making the difference through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Désiré Doué. Matvey Safonov also delivered when Paris needed him most.
Safonov (7): A reassuring performance. The Russian goalkeeper could do little about Madjo’s equaliser but produced several important saves, notably against McGinn and Hemmings. Hakimi (6): Less adventurous than usual, the Moroccan mainly had to deal with Villa’s quick transitions. He struggled at times but his energy and pace helped PSG limit the damage. Marquinhos (6): The Paris captain did not always display his usual composure against Villa’s energetic young forwards, but gradually regained control and looked much more solid after the break. Pacho (4.5): A difficult evening. The Ecuadorian struggled badly against Brian Madjo, particularly in the duels, and was beaten again for the youngster’s equaliser just before half-time. Much better after the break, but his first-half display significantly lowers his rating. Nuno Mendes (6.5): Full of energy and eager to contribute going forward. The Portuguese defender almost scored in the second half with a powerful effort saved by Bizot before being replaced by Lucas Hernandez.
Kvaratskhelia and Doué Deliver Again for PSG
João Neves (6): Not quite as dominant as usual in midfield, but still valuable with his pressing and work rate. He helped Paris gradually regain control before being replaced by Fabian Ruiz. Vitinha (6.5): After a difficult collective start, the Portuguese midfielder progressively took command of the middle of the pitch. Always available to dictate the tempo and help PSG play out cleanly. Zaïre-Emery (6): Plenty of energy and several promising forward runs, including an opportunity from the edge of the box in the second half. A solid rather than spectacular performance. Akliouche (5): A quiet first start for PSG. The former Monaco player struggled to get involved and make an impact in the final third. He was replaced at half-time by Ousmane Dembélé (6), whose introduction brought more directness, even if the 2025 Ballon d’Or winner understandably lacked rhythm.
Désiré Doué (7.5): Decisive once again in a major final. Already dangerous in the first half with an effort saved by Bizot, he scored the winning goal in the 61st minute. Initially ruled out for offside, the goal was eventually awarded following a VAR review. Another big occasion on which Doué left his mark. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (8): PSG’s man of the match. The Georgian once again showcased his talent by opening the scoring in the 20th minute with a powerful strike into the top corner. Lively and constantly dangerous, he could even have completed a brace late on. He was Paris’ biggest attacking threat throughout the evening.
Top: Kvaratskhelia (8). Decisive, spectacular and capable of unlocking a final with a moment of individual brilliance, the Georgian continues to prove that he is one of the key players in Luis Enrique’s system. Flop: Pacho (4.5). Rarely has the Ecuadorian looked this uncomfortable, particularly against the very young Brian Madjo. He struggled in the duels and bears some responsibility for Villa’s goal, despite improving after the break. Ultimately, PSG secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory thanks to goals from Kvaratskhelia and Doué to retain the UEFA Super Cup. Another trophy for Paris, who begin the 2026-27 season exactly as they ended the previous one: winning.
