Barça Look for Jules Koundé Replacement, Opening the Door for PSG

The Jules Koundé situation could return to PSG’s agenda. Already mentioned among the clubs interested in the France international during the summer transfer window, Paris can now closely monitor developments at FC Barcelona. The Frenchman has slipped down the pecking order and, more importantly, Barça are already working on signing another right-back: Ivan Fresneda. That could potentially open the door in the coming months.

Koundé’s situation has changed considerably in Catalonia. Long regarded as a key player on the right side of Barcelona’s defence, the Frenchman now faces competition from Eric Garcia, who has moved ahead of him in the hierarchy. This change in status had already fuelled speculation during the summer. In August, Foot Mercato reported that Koundé was prepared to consider leaving if his role remained secondary, while Barcelona were reportedly willing to consider a satisfactory offer.

PSG Have Already Targeted Koundé

The situation could naturally interest Paris Saint-Germain. PSG were among the clubs monitoring the French defender this summer, alongside Bayern Munich and several English sides. Paris were looking for a versatile player capable of operating both at centre-back and on the right. Koundé fits that profile perfectly. Originally a central defender, he has established himself at the highest level as a right-back and has considerable international experience. His contract with Barcelona runs until 2030.

A new development could now increase the uncertainty surrounding his future. According to Sport, Barça have renewed their interest in Ivan Fresneda, Sporting Portugal’s right-back. The Spanish player is being monitored by Deco and could become the subject of a Barcelona move, with several Spanish media outlets reporting the information on Wednesday. The possible arrival of another specialist in the position would further increase competition on the right and could push Koundé to reconsider his future.

No new PSG move for Koundé has been reported at this stage, but Paris have already studied his profile. If Barcelona genuinely open the door in the coming months, the France international could therefore naturally become a player to watch again in the French capital.
