PSG: Has Alberto Costa Been Identified as Achraf Hakimi’s Back-Up?

PSG are keeping an eye on Alberto Costa. Already linked with the Parisian club several months ago, the FC Porto right-back is reportedly still being monitored by Luis Campos. However, Paris are far from alone in the race and, above all, no concrete move has yet been made.

According to CaughtOffside, Paris Saint-Germain are among the clubs currently tracking the Portuguese defender. Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City are also said to be monitoring his development. At this stage, however, caution is required: no formal offer has reportedly been submitted to Porto, with the interested clubs still assessing the player.

PSG Have Already Looked at Alberto Costa

Alberto Costa’s name is not new in Paris. As early as January 2026, L’Équipe reported that PSG were following the Portuguese defender, along with Benfica youngster Anisio Cabral. The trail subsequently cooled, with Fabrice Hawkins reporting that Costa was not among Luis Campos’ priorities because PSG were satisfied with their existing options to provide cover for Achraf Hakimi, including Warren Zaïre-Emery. A few months later, Costa’s name has resurfaced, although it remains unclear whether this is simply routine scouting or whether PSG could eventually make a move.

A product of Vitória Guimarães, Costa joined Juventus in January 2025 before quickly returning to Portugal. FC Porto signed him in the summer of 2025 for €15 million plus potential bonuses. The right-back, who has just turned 23, made 47 appearances in all competitions during the 2025-26 season, scoring once and providing eight assists. Porto have protected themselves with a contract running until June 2030 and a €65 million release clause, while Juventus retain a percentage of any future profit from his sale.

That represents a significant price for a player who would primarily arrive to provide genuine competition and cover for Hakimi. PSG are therefore monitoring the situation, but there is currently nothing to suggest that Luis Campos is ready to invest several tens of millions of euros in Alberto Costa. For now, this remains a transfer lead to watch rather than a deal at an advanced stage.
