PSG: Zabarnyi’s Nightmare Match, Unprecedented

It’s an evening that Illia Zabarnyi is unlikely to forget… for all the wrong reasons. A surprising starter in place of Marquinhos, who was still not fit, the Ukrainian defender completely collapsed during PSG’s trip to the BayArena.

In 37 minutes, he got everything wrong: a handball, a penalty, a red card… and a departure to boos. Everything had started well for Paris, quickly taking the lead thanks to Willian Pacho. But in the 24th minute, Zabarnyi, clumsy, handled the ball in the box after a duel with Echeverri.

Referee Jesus Gil Manzano awarded a penalty and issued a yellow card. Fortunately for Paris, Grimaldo missed the opportunity by hitting the post. Relieved? Not for long. Because a quarter of an hour later, the nightmare escalated: on a long ball, Zabarnyi was outpaced by Kofane and clumsily fouled him. This time, a direct red card! The defender left the pitch with his head down, completely overwhelmed.

The successor to Marquinhos is not there yet

Ironically, while Leverkusen was already down to ten after the expulsion of Robert Andrich, PSG began to dominate without him. Three goals in seven minutes, a brace from Doué, a goal from Kvaratskhelia, and a transformed team.

Result: Paris won comfortably (7-2), but Zabarnyi leaves with a night to forget. A nightmarish performance that could cost him dearly in Luis Enrique’s defensive hierarchy.
