A few days after France’s devastating defeat to Spain in the 2026 World Cup semi-finals, Lucas Digne has spoken out. Still deeply affected by Les Bleus’ elimination, the left-back posted a lengthy message on Instagram to express his sadness and disappointment.
Many supporters have blamed him for the collapse, even though he was only one part of the team’s overall failure. Lucas Digne, who is expected to join PSG, broke his silence 48 hours after France’s World Cup exit.
Lucas Digne Admits His Deep Disappointment
“This is the end of a dream. The dream of a little boy, and probably that of thousands of people behind us,” the French defender wrote. Digne admitted that he was still struggling to find the right words after the brutal end to France’s campaign, adding that he was disappointed in himself, the team and the incredible group of players who had worked so hard.

Digne also thanked the supporters who followed France throughout the tournament, including those who travelled across the Atlantic and the millions who backed the team from home. Despite the pain, he said he remained proud to have represented France, its diversity and everyone who makes up the country.
France must now face England in the third-place play-off. It will be a difficult match to prepare for after such a major disappointment, but Digne is determined to finish the tournament positively: “It’s not over. We still have a place on the podium to fight for.”
