Paris Saint-Germain once again delivered on the big stage. The Parisians beat Aston Villa 2-1 in the UEFA Super Cup, combining some excellent moments with far more fragile spells, particularly in a first half during which the English side seriously troubled Luis Enrique’s defence.
Among the standout performers, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was PSG’s main spark. The Georgian opened the scoring with a powerful strike into the top corner after intense Paris pressing. Constantly involved, available between the lines and always capable of creating an imbalance, he once again made his mark in an important match.

Désiré Doué also stepped up once again in a final. Already dangerous before the break, the Frenchman scored the winning goal in the second half. Initially ruled offside, the goal was eventually awarded following a VAR review. Matvey Safonov also played an important role, producing several valuable saves, notably against McGinn and Hemmings, and responding whenever Aston Villa threatened.
On the negative side, Willian Pacho endured a very difficult evening. He was repeatedly troubled by Brian Madjo’s power and pace and was beaten for Villa’s equaliser. Maghnes Akliouche was also too quiet on his first PSG start, struggling to make an impact in the final third before being replaced at half-time by Ousmane Dembélé.
More generally, PSG’s defence showed worrying signs during the first half, leaving too much space and allowing Aston Villa several clear chances before the equaliser. Paris improved after the break and ultimately found a way to win. With Kvaratskhelia and Doué among the key figures, PSG lifted another UEFA Super Cup and once again showed their ability to win even without completely controlling the match.
