Paris Saint-Germain are preparing to complete a spectacular financial deal involving Bradley Barcola. Signed from Olympique Lyonnais in 2023 for around €45 million, the French winger is now expected to join Liverpool in a transfer that could reach €140 million including bonuses.
Could this prove to be another masterstroke from Luis Campos? Three years ago, PSG viewed Barcola as a major market opportunity. Since then, the winger has developed into a top-level player, and Paris are now in position to cash in. If the deal is completed for the reported amount, PSG could make a gross profit of close to €95 million.
From €45m signing to potential €140m sale
Liverpool are reportedly prepared to spend around €140 million including bonuses to secure Barcola. Based purely on the difference between the purchase and sale prices, PSG would turn an initial €45 million investment into as much as €140 million. The transfer could also become one of the biggest sales in the club’s history and provide significant financial flexibility for the rest of the transfer window.
From an accounting perspective, the deal could be even more profitable. Transfer fees are amortised over the length of a player’s contract, and Barcola has already spent three seasons in Paris. A large portion of his original €45 million fee has therefore already been accounted for, meaning his remaining book value is significantly lower. A sale close to €140 million could consequently generate an accounting profit well above €100 million, depending on the exact contract structure and financial terms.
PSG will not keep the entire transfer fee, however. As Barcola’s former and development club, Lyon are expected to receive several million euros through solidarity mechanisms linked to an international transfer. Even so, the overall picture remains striking: PSG are on course to transform an investment of around €45 million into a deal worth up to €140 million. Losing Barcola would be a major sporting decision, but financially it would represent an enormous piece of business for the French champions.
