On the road in Brest this Friday, RC Lens struggled for long stretches before salvaging a result. The draw feels like a defeat for the Lens side, especially as Paris Saint-Germain now has the opportunity to widen the gap.
Completely overwhelmed in the first half and conceding three goals, Lens reacted after the break to snatch a spectacular 3-3 draw, notably thanks to a late equalizer from Allan Saint-Maximin. A comeback that does not hide the key issue: Lens once again dropped valuable points.
PSG in Control of the Title Race
This result plays right into the hands of Paris Saint-Germain. With a three-point lead and a game in hand, the capital club takes a serious step toward the title, benefiting from Lens’ slip-ups. The scenario echoes the one against Toulouse, but this time the cost is much higher for Lens.
Clear-headed, Florian Thauvin did not look for excuses: “We missed our first half completely, there’s real frustration. Toulouse didn’t teach us anything. Coming back to 3-3 is an achievement, but we weren’t not ready from the start. In football, nothing happens by chance. We missed the opportunity to take three points. For me, the title race is over. If you don’t win every weekend against PSG, it’s very difficult.”
On his side, coach Pierre Sage did not hide his anger after the match. “I agree, even if there is still some hope. But I made a mistake. I wanted everyone to hear my halftime talk, that’s why they came back late. We were breaking a pact, I didn’t feel respected. Playing time isn’t given, it’s earned. Right now, I feel betrayed.” While Lens deals with doubts and internal tensions, PSG keeps moving forward. Unless there is a dramatic twist, the title now seems destined for Paris—provided they win this Saturday against Angers.
