Behind his quiet smile and his role as a luxury substitute at Paris Saint-Germain, Gonçalo Ramos has endured one of the most difficult periods of his career. The Portuguese striker recently reflected on the serious injury that disrupted the start of his season and made him fear the worst.
The story between Ramos and PSG has not always been straightforward. Everything had started perfectly in the summer of 2024, when he entered the new campaign as the first-choice striker in Paris. But during the opening Ligue 1 match against Le Havre, his dream came to an abrupt halt. Following a heavy challenge, the Portuguese forward suffered an ankle injury and was forced off the pitch after only a few minutes.
A Career-Threatening Injury Scare
The diagnosis was devastating. Taken to hospital, Ramos initially heard doctors discuss the possibility of a fibula fracture before learning that surgery would ultimately be required. The result was three months on the sidelines and a lengthy rehabilitation process that left a deep mark on the player.
Speaking on the Portuguese television program Alta Definição, Ramos revealed the extent of his anxiety during that period. “I was afraid I would never be able to walk again,” he admitted. The former Benfica striker explained that he lost significant mobility in his foot after the operation, adding that the ordeal ultimately made him stronger and better prepared to face future challenges.
The injury came on top of an already difficult first season in Paris, which had also been affected by serious health issues shortly after his arrival in the French capital. Despite these setbacks, Ramos believes he has emerged stronger from the experience. The painful episode may ultimately have helped shape the mentality of PSG’s number nine as he looks ahead to the rest of his journey with the club.
