Lucas Digne’s likely arrival at Paris Saint-Germain would involve much more than simply signing a backup for Nuno Mendes. The Aston Villa left-back could lead to a much broader redistribution of roles within the Parisian squad.
Digne joining PSG would be far from insignificant. According to L’Équipe, signing the 32-year-old France international would allow Luis Enrique to use Lucas Hernandez more regularly in central defence. Lucas Beraldo, meanwhile, could continue his transition into midfield, where the Brazilian has already been tested.
Digne Could Reshape PSG’s Defensive Structure
For several weeks, PSG had prioritised the search for a young full-back capable of developing behind Nuno Mendes. However, the Portuguese defender’s repeated absences, totalling 46 days last season, gradually changed the club’s thinking. Paris now appear to want a player who can make an immediate impact, and Digne’s Premier League consistency, top-level experience and estimated €10 million transfer fee make him an attractive option.

His arrival would above all give Luis Enrique greater tactical freedom. Hernandez could move inside, while Beraldo would receive more playing time in midfield. A single signing could therefore strengthen three different areas of the PSG squad.
PSG no longer appear to view Digne merely as an alternative to Nuno Mendes, but as a recruit capable of triggering a genuine tactical domino effect across the team’s organisation.
