It is a decision that may come as a surprise. Despite a difficult season for Lucas Chevalier, who has fallen behind Matvey Safonov in the goalkeeping hierarchy, Paris Saint-Germain has no intention of parting ways with the French goalkeeper this summer.
The battle for the number one spot will continue at PSG. Chevalier, who arrived from Lille in 2025 as the successor to Gianluigi Donnarumma, had hoped to establish himself quickly as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper. However, Safonov’s impressive rise changed the situation and pushed the French international onto the bench, a role he is reportedly finding difficult to accept.
PSG Determined to Keep Chevalier
Although several clubs are monitoring his situation, PSG remains firm. Besiktas and Tottenham have already made inquiries, while Aston Villa could enter the race if Emiliano Martinez leaves the Premier League side. Despite this interest, the Parisian club does not intend to open the door to a transfer.
Internally, the message is clear: Lucas Chevalier must fight to regain his place. Unless the player explicitly requests a move and a satisfactory offer arrives, the European champions plan to keep the 24-year-old goalkeeper. PSG’s strategy is to have two goalkeepers capable of starting at any moment, making a departure difficult to consider.
At the same time, the club is preparing for the future. PSG is working on the signing of young goalkeeper Alessandro Longoni, currently available after leaving AC Milan. Renato Marin is also expected to be loaned out to gain valuable playing time, with potential destinations in France, Spain, and Portugal already being explored.
