Paris Saint-Germain endured a frustrating night on Wednesday, suffering a 0-1 defeat against Liverpool in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 clash.
Despite dominating the game, the Parisians were punished late, a scenario that Luis Enrique described as cruel.
“It’s very unfair. We played a complete match, maybe our best in the Champions League,” he told Canal+. “In the first half, the expected goals were largely in our favor. They had one shot and scored. Their best player was Alisson. It’s a bit strange, but I’m very proud of my team and our supporters. The atmosphere was incredible. But football can be unfair sometimes.”
Despite the disappointment, the PSG manager refuses to give up and is demanding a reaction in the second leg. “We won’t surrender,” he assured, echoing the words of Vitinha, who also remains confident ahead of the return leg at Anfield next Tuesday.
Luis Enrique also praised his team’s defensive discipline against the Reds: “It’s probably the first time this season that Liverpool reached halftime without creating a single chance. We played a complete game, the players were united, and they ran a lot.”
In the locker room, frustration was evident, but the Spanish coach made sure to rally his squad: “I told them to keep their heads up.” A clear call to fight back, as PSG now faces the daunting task of pulling off an upset in England to keep their Champions League hopes alive.
