The Paris Saint-Germain could soon play an unprecedented derby at the Stade de France. Not against the PSG women’s team, not against Paris FC… but against another Parisian club ready to rise under the spotlight: Red Star.
L1: towards a PSG–Red Star… at the Stade de France? Second in Ligue 2 after 14 matchdays, the club from Saint-Ouen dreams of finally returning to Ligue 1. If they succeed, the scene could be completely crazy. Its president, Patrice Haddad, confirmed on RMC: Red Star does not rule out hosting the biggest matches, including a possible clash against PSG, at the venue in Saint-Denis.
“A Red Star–PSG, you’d get 80,000 people,” Haddad said. “It’s not possible to limit ourselves to a stadium with 10,000 seats; that wouldn’t be respectful.” The message is clear: Bauer, even renovated, is not sized for a Parisian derby of this magnitude.
A XXL dream… but a headache for supporters
While the idea excites football lovers, it may sting the loyal fans of Bauer. The legendary stadium in Saint-Ouen, still under construction, remains a symbol, an identity, a home. Seeing matches relocated to Saint-Denis could be a difficult sacrifice for part of the Kop.
But before igniting the Stade de France, Red Star must first secure its promotion. On the field, the level is there, the momentum too. The challenge remains to keep up the pace.
If the team from Saint-Ouen rises, Paris would finally have its derby in a gigantic setting. A Red Star–PSG in front of 80,000 people: what if the real Parisian thrill of the future came from Saint-Ouen?
