Lucas Chevalier is determined to overturn the goalkeeping hierarchy ahead of Matvey Safonov. Despite receiving several offers, the French goalkeeper has no intention of leaving PSG. The two players will compete for the starting position this season after both decided to remain in Paris.
Chevalier will return to the PSG Campus on July 25 alongside the players who did not take part in the World Cup. He will be closely watched after a difficult first season in the capital. Signed from Lille as PSG’s future number one, he struggled with inconsistent performances, physical problems and Safonov’s rapid rise.
Chevalier Determined to Fight for His Place
Before the World Cup, the 24-year-old reportedly told Luis Enrique and the PSG hierarchy that he wanted to stay. The club welcomed his decision but has offered him no guarantees regarding his status. Safonov currently has the advantage after impressing in the Champions League, convincing PSG not to sign another goalkeeper this summer.

Luis Enrique nevertheless considers the hierarchy open. According to sources inside the club, two or three poor performances could quickly change the situation. Chevalier has reportedly rejected interest from Besiktas, Tottenham and Aston Villa because he wants to remain in Paris and win back the position he was originally expected to occupy.
Signed for around €55 million to prepare for life after Gianluigi Donnarumma, Chevalier remains a major PSG investment. His summer preparation could prove decisive, with every training session and friendly potentially affecting the battle with Safonov. After a disappointing first campaign, his objective is clear: become PSG’s number one, revive his France prospects under Zinedine Zidane and prove the club was right to invest heavily in him.
