Deprived of a Champions League Victory, the Big Regret of This Former PSG Player

Alexandre Letellier, a goalkeeper trained at Paris Saint-Germain, told L’Équipe about the two deep wounds that continue to follow him. Personal regrets, intertwined with strong emotions tied to his history with the club.

Letellier opens up candidly in L’Équipe: two regrets that shaped his career at PSG — and significant ones. The first concerns his family. “I have two: the first is that my father couldn’t witness my return to Paris, because he passed away before,” Letellier confides.

Coming back to PSG, his formative club, meant far more than just a transfer. It was the fulfillment of a dream he wished he could have shared with the man who accompanied him throughout his journey.

The second regret is directly linked to the golden era Paris was about to experience. Leaving in June 2024 at the end of his contract, Letellier missed the season of the Champions League triumph. “The second is leaving a year too early, because I didn’t experience that Champions League victory,” he explains.

“I was happy for them, truly”

Letellier missed out on winning the UCL by just a few months, but the former goalkeeper refuses any bitterness: “I was happy for them, truly, I wasn’t resentful. I was internally disappointed not to live it with them, but incredibly happy for them and for the club, especially knowing how long they’d waited for this.”

Despite his departure, Letellier was determined to be present for this historic moment. He traveled to Munich to attend the final: “I went to watch the match in Munich, I was able to go on the pitch with the players, congratulate them, then go to the hotel with them.” A precious privilege for someone who long lived in the shadows, yet always remained part of the Parisian group.

“Being able to experience even a tiny part of it with them was already huge,” he concludes. Even if he didn’t lift the trophy, Letellier remains connected to this victory in a symbolic and emotional way, between pride, nostalgia and gratitude.
