PSG are going through a tense start to 2026 with three major defeats. The latest loss against Rennes exposed internal tensions within the squad.
Luis Enrique must calm the group ahead of the Champions League playoff against Monaco. The Spanish coach publicly set the record straight in the media (“no player is above the club”) following criticism from Ousmane Dembélé. But the forward was not the only one to show his frustration.
Dressing room tensions after the Rennes defeat
According to L’Equipe, during Rennes vs PSG, Vitinha berated Dembélé for his lack of commitment on one play and also showed irritation toward João Neves. After the match, Vitinha delivered a warning message, without directly naming any teammates.
“We’re ready for criticism, that’s not the problem. We’ll talk about it among ourselves — some things worked, others didn’t. I know everyone wants to score, but sometimes you have to pass the ball to teammates who are in a better position. I’m not targeting anyone. I can’t imagine someone only thinking about himself in this team. But we’ll discuss it internally to fix what didn’t work and be ready for the next match.”
With the dressing room under pressure, the match against Monaco will be crucial. “It wasn’t the result we expected. We didn’t play a bad game. We also have to acknowledge Rennes’ strong performance. But even if Rennes play the game of their lives, we must win with the squad and the level we have.” While the team seems ready to move on and does not hold Dembélé’s controversial public remarks against him, tension remains high in Paris. A good result against Monaco would ease things. Another defeat would make the situation even more complicated.
