Désiré Doué scored a brace during Monaco–PSG (2–3) on Tuesday night in the Champions League, sending a powerful message after a turbulent week.
After the defeat against Rennes, Ousmane Dembélé had shaken up the Paris dressing room with a notable statement — “the club before individuals” — widely interpreted as a message aimed at Désiré Doué, who started on the bench against Monaco in favor of the Barcola–Dembélé–Kvaratskhelia trio.
Doué Turns the Match Around After Coming Off the Bench
But the scenario changed completely: trailing 2–0 and after a missed penalty, PSG lost Dembélé to injury before the half-hour mark. Coming on as a substitute, Doué immediately flipped the game with two goals and a decisive move on Hakimi’s strike. Named man of the match, he turned a delicate situation into a strong response on the pitch.
“The coach makes his choices,” he said after the match. “I just try to play as usual. Tonight it paid off — I scored and helped the team, that’s my job. The coach makes his decisions and thinks about the best players for the team. He picked his starting eleven and that’s fine. It’s always about the collective, whether it’s a win or a loss. Today I was able to contribute, so I’m happy.”
