PSG Hit by Major Injury Wave, Luis Enrique Explains the Situation

Paris Saint-Germain are entering the danger zone ahead of the Champions League final against Arsenal. Despite a comfortable position in Ligue 1 with a three-point lead before hosting Brest, the Parisian club must now deal with a worrying accumulation of physical problems just weeks before the biggest European match of the season.

This Saturday, PSG confirmed several medical concerns. Matvey Safonov is still struggling with a calf issue, while Willian Pacho, Nuno Mendes and Warren Zaïre-Emery have all joined the injury list. Achraf Hakimi, Lucas Chevalier and Quentin Ndjantou also remain unavailable.

Luis Enrique Tries to Calm Fears Before Arsenal

Faced with this situation, Luis Enrique attempted to ease concerns. The Paris coach explained that no serious injuries had been detected and that the physical fatigue was mainly the result of the huge intensity from the two-legged clash against Bayern Munich.

“There is no serious problem,” Luis Enrique insisted. “We always try to do what is best for the player. Every case is different. I want to win but also protect the players’ health. There are differences between them. There are injured players. There is no serious problem. It shows the level of intensity we had to overcome.”

The Spanish coach now wants to manage his squad carefully before the final against Arsenal. Several academy players are expected to start against Brest in order to rest key stars. Luis Enrique still believes the team must find the right balance between recovery and competitive rhythm before May 30. PSG are therefore walking a fine line: protecting their stars without breaking the momentum of a squad still dreaming of a historic Ligue 1 and Champions League double. “To reach the final, players need competitive minutes. But there are risks. We have to decide how many minutes each player needs. The schedule allows us to do that.”
