The scene sparked plenty of discussion in Paris: after the heroic qualification against Bayern Munich, PSG’s players gathered on Thursday night at the famous Prunier restaurant near the Arc de Triomphe… without Luis Enrique, who was supposedly expected to celebrate his birthday with them.
Did Luis Enrique snub the PSG players? Not really. According to reports from RMC Sport and journalist Fabrice Hawkins, the evening was not actually a birthday party organized by the Parisian coach, contrary to what Le Parisien had suggested.
The Bet Between Luis Enrique and His Players
Everything reportedly started in the dressing room after the first leg against Bayern. PSG’s players challenged their coach: if they qualified for the Champions League final, the entire squad would go out for dinner together… and Luis Enrique would have to pay the bill. The Spaniard jokingly replied: “If you qualify!”
Mission accomplished after the European triumph. The Parisians then met at Prunier for a luxurious dinner filled with caviar, fine gastronomy and collective celebrations… but without their coach, who remained absent throughout the evening.
However, Luis Enrique reportedly kept his promise until the very end by paying the entire bill. A story that perfectly reflects the excellent atmosphere currently surrounding the Parisian dressing room ahead of the major European final.
