PSG’s “Worst Match”: Luis Enrique Slams His Players

Paris Saint-Germain ended their Ligue 1 season with a worrying defeat against Paris FC (2-1) on Sunday at Jean-Bouin. Clearly frustrated by his team’s performance just two weeks before the Champions League final against Arsenal, Luis Enrique did not hide his anger after the match.

Four days after celebrating the title won away at Lens, PSG completely failed to deliver in the Paris derby against Paris FC. Despite several key players being in the starting lineup, the Parisians lost a match also marked by Ousmane Dembélé’s injury scare in the first half.

Luis Enrique Furious Ahead of Arsenal Clash

After the game, Luis Enrique was extremely critical of his squad. The Spanish coach even described the performance as the “worst match” since his arrival at PSG three years ago.

“Nothing, nothing. Absolutely nothing,” the Paris coach said while analyzing the match on Ligue 1+. “The first half was at a very low level. When you play without intensity and ambition, this is what can happen,” he added angrily.

“There are many excuses, but I don’t like excuses. I know it’s difficult to play this kind of match because what is the motivation? There is no motivation. But it’s different when you play for Paris Saint-Germain. You can lose, but I always expect much more from the players. That’s what being professional means to me. They had intentions, but without intensity it’s difficult to play football. Today, we needed to be motivated, and that’s why I’m disappointed.” Despite the lack of stakes in Ligue 1 and the Champions League final against Arsenal being on everyone’s mind, Luis Enrique refused to accept any excuses. “When you are at Paris Saint-Germain, you must show that everything is different. Today, it was a bad match and I’m not happy,” concluded the PSG manager.
