PSG may rule Europe with two consecutive Champions League titles, but one ranking continues to resist them. Despite their status as back-to-back European champions, the Parisian club have just lost a place in the UEFA rankings… to Arsenal.
Paris had nevertheless made a spectacular comeback after their European triumph in Budapest, climbing to third place in the continental standings. But with the 2021-2022 season removed from the coefficient calculation, the cards have been reshuffled.
Arsenal overtake PSG in the UEFA rankings
And the big winner is Arsenal. Absent from European competitions that season, the Gunners lose no points and fully benefit from their recent excellent run, jumping straight to second place in the UEFA ranking. That move pushes PSG down to fourth.
The paradox is striking. While Paris dominate European football on the pitch, Arsenal now sit ahead of them in UEFA’s calculations. The London club are reaping the rewards of their consistent campaigns and their near-perfect run last season.
PSG are still paying for certain past setbacks, including their Champions League last-16 elimination against Bayern Munich in 2023. As a result, Bayern remain firmly on top, Arsenal move into second, Real Madrid stay third and PSG must settle for fourth. A frustrating situation for Luis Enrique’s men, who are nevertheless dominating European football today.
