Just days before France begin their 2026 World Cup campaign, Désiré Doué appears to have gained a slight edge in the race for a starting spot.
It looks set to be Doué. Competing with Bradley Barcola for the left-wing position, the Paris Saint-Germain youngster is expected to start against Senegal on Tuesday.
Doué Earns Deschamps’ Trust
According to L’Équipe, head coach Didier Deschamps is ready to place his faith in the young Parisian for France’s opening World Cup match. It would be a deserved reward for a player who enjoyed an outstanding season with PSG and has gradually established himself as a credible option for Les Bleus.
Elsewhere, few surprises are expected in the French lineup. Mike Maignan should start in goal despite missing the latest training match, while Jules Koundé and William Saliba are also expected to feature in defense.
The two defenders had raised concerns in recent days due to minor physical issues, but neither problem appears serious enough to jeopardize their place against Senegal. France’s probable lineup is: Maignan; Koundé, Upamecano, Saliba, Theo Hernandez; Tchouaméni, Rabiot; Olise, Ousmane Dembélé, Désiré Doué; Mbappé (captain).
