The Zidane name is indeed set to reappear in French football. But not at Paris Saint-Germain. A few years after Enzo Zidane, who had a spell at Rodez, it is now Elyaz Zidane who will try his luck in France. Zinédine Zidane’s youngest son has officially signed with Red Star.
Aged 20, Elyaz Zidane joins the Paris-area club, currently playing in Ligue 2. His arrival will inevitably attract attention, as his name immediately draws the spotlight. But beyond the family legacy, the central defender is mainly looking for playing time, stability and a real opportunity to launch his professional career.
Elyaz Zidane Takes on a New Challenge at Red Star
Born in Marseille and developed at Real Madrid, Elyaz Zidane spent many years in the highly demanding environment of the Spanish giants. Like his brothers before him, he grew up with a name that carries enormous weight, but also with top-level training. Before joining Red Star, the young defender was playing with Real Betis’ reserve team. He had signed in Spain in July 2024 after leaving Real Madrid, with the goal of continuing his development in a more favorable setting.
Red Star, fourth in the last Ligue 2 campaign, have therefore brought in a still-young player with an interesting profile, but also a very high-profile name. For the Paris-area club, it is both a sporting gamble and a smart move in terms of visibility. For Elyaz Zidane, this signing marks an important step: his first real adventure in French football. Although he was born in France, he built his footballing identity in Spain. This move to Ligue 2 should now allow him to establish himself in a competitive and demanding league.
The challenge is clear: to make a name for himself, far from the immense shadow of Zinédine Zidane. Carrying that surname opens doors, but it also brings constant pressure. At Red Star, Elyaz will have the chance to prove that he can carve out his own path. A son of Zizou is therefore indeed arriving in Paris. But not at PSG. It is at Red Star, in an ambitious and popular project, that Elyaz Zidane will try to write the first lines of his story in France.
