Paris Saint-Germain appear to be gaining the upper hand in the race for Ferran Torres. Luis Enrique has reportedly already spoken personally with the Spanish forward to present the Parisian project, while FC Barcelona are not prepared to enter a financial battle with the French champions.
Ferran Torres is edging closer to PSG, largely for financial reasons. According to Sport, Barcelona have no intention of offering him a higher salary than the one proposed by PSG. The Catalan board do not want to alter their wage structure or disrupt the balance of the dressing room simply to convince the Spain international to stay.
Luis Enrique Gives PSG the Advantage
This stance could clearly benefit PSG. In recent days, Luis Enrique is said to have called Ferran Torres directly to explain the role he could play in Paris. The Spanish coach particularly values his versatility, movement and ability to operate in several attacking positions. His message was reportedly well received by the player, who knows his former national-team coach extremely well.
Barcelona are not actively trying to force Ferran Torres out, but their financial situation could encourage them to consider offers. PSG therefore appear to be among the best-placed clubs to move forward, although an agreement will still need to be reached with Barcelona over the transfer fee.
With Luis Enrique’s confidence, the prospect of an important role in the Parisian project and a salary Barcelona are unwilling to match, the conditions are gradually falling into place for PSG. Ferran Torres could become one of the club’s major transfer stories of the summer.
