Paris Saint-Germain have been hit by a major transfer twist. Zion Suzuki looked set to join the French champions, but the Japanese goalkeeper will ultimately not move to Paris. According to Fabrice Hawkins, the deal collapsed at the very last moment.
PSG and Parma had already reached an agreement for the 23-year-old goalkeeper. The two clubs were reportedly exchanging the documents required to complete the transfer, while Suzuki was scheduled to undergo his medical on Saturday.
Agent commissions derail the Suzuki deal
The situation reportedly changed because of commissions requested by the player’s representatives. According to @Djaameel_, Suzuki’s agents asked for an additional €5 million on top of the €35 million transfer fee agreed with Parma. PSG considered those demands excessive and decided to walk away from the negotiations.
The transfer is now considered abandoned, bringing an unexpected end to a saga that had already produced several twists. PSG had considered different plans for Suzuki, including a possible loan to Juventus, before Luis Enrique reportedly expressed a desire to assess the goalkeeper himself.
Unless there is another spectacular turnaround, Suzuki will therefore not become a PSG player this summer. Paris will now have to reconsider its plans in goal, with Matvey Safonov and Lucas Chevalier already part of a position that has generated considerable transfer speculation.
