Luis Campos leaves nothing to chance when identifying future signings for Paris Saint-Germain. Beyond technical ability and physical attributes, the club’s sporting advisor aims to understand a player’s personality, behavior, and ability to integrate into a dressing room filled with elite-level talent.
Speaking in an interview with RTP, the Portuguese executive revealed several unconventional recruitment techniques. Long meals, extended conversations, shopping center visits, and even undercover observations from the stands are all part of his process to determine whether a player truly fits PSG’s expectations.
Luis Campos’ Unique Recruitment Strategy at PSG
Campos explained that he once arranged a meeting with a player in a shopping district after hearing concerns about the player’s spending habits. Curious to verify the claims himself, he invited the player for a coffee before suggesting a walk. According to Campos, the player entered several stores and spent significant amounts of money, confirming the reputation he had previously been told about.
The sporting advisor also uses meals to present the club’s long-term project while observing a player’s focus and attention span. He revealed that he sometimes sends two scouts to the same match without informing either of them, ensuring completely independent reports. Campos even admitted to wearing a fake mustache to avoid being recognized in stadiums, preferring to sit among ordinary fans rather than in the VIP section. These stories highlight his meticulous approach, where personality, concentration, financial discipline, and character can be just as important as footballing talent when evaluating a potential PSG signing.
