PSG/Arsenal: Paris Mayor Backs Down and Cancels Fan Zone for the Final

According to Le Parisien, Emmanuel Grégoire has ultimately abandoned the idea of setting up a fan zone in Paris for the Champions League final between PSG and Arsenal, scheduled for May 30 in Budapest.

There will be no fan zone in Paris on May 30 for the PSG final. The Mayor of Paris admitted on Monday that the security context had become too complicated due to the exceptional concentration of major events taking place in the capital during the same weekend.

Security Concerns Force Paris to Cancel PSG Fan Zone

Between Aya Nakamura’s concerts at the Stade de France, Damso at La Défense Arena, Bouss at the Accor Arena, as well as Roland-Garros, events at the Parc des Princes, and a Stade Français match at Jean-Bouin, the police prefecture reportedly opposed the project from the start.

“What matters most to me is the safety of Parisians and spectators,” Emmanuel Grégoire explained, as quoted by Le Parisien. The Paris official said he had listened to the concerns raised by the police prefect and the Interior Minister, whom he was due to meet later that day.

The Mayor of Paris nevertheless regrets the decision and believes that the number of large private events prevented the organization of a free public gathering around PSG. Emmanuel Grégoire now hopes that, in the future, the capital will be able to better spread out major events to allow public fan zones to be organized.
