PSG wanted to launch its new shirt in style. But on the Champs-Élysées, the day turned into a fiasco. This Saturday, the Parisian club’s official store remained closed in the middle of launch day because of an air-conditioning failure.
In the middle of a heatwave, it became impossible to welcome supporters in proper conditions. With many fans expected to discover and buy the new PSG kit, the store eventually had to pull down the shutters. A particularly badly timed setback for one of the biggest commercial moments of the Parisian summer.
The Heatwave Hits PSG’s Flagship Store
According to Le Parisien, the air-conditioning system at the Champs-Élysées store had already stopped working the day before. With the heat, the expected crowds and the release of the new shirt, the situation quickly became impossible to manage.
A temporary worker present at the store described the scene: “Everything had always gone very well, but since yesterday the air conditioning has not been working. Many colleagues did not feel able to work in this heat with so many customers coming for the release of the new shirt. I was fine, but the decision was made to close the store.”
As a result, launch day was ruined for PSG’s most symbolic store. Between the heatwave, the technical failure and the frustration of supporters, the Parisian club would clearly have hoped for a smoother start. The new shirt is already getting people talking, but not only because of its design: on the Champs-Élysées, it was the air conditioning that stole the show.
