Two consecutive Champions League titles are still not enough for Luis Enrique. Despite Paris Saint-Germain’s immense recent success, the Spanish coach refuses to let his team settle into a comfort zone and wants to keep refreshing his squad.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Luis Enrique explained that continued success also requires making difficult choices. In his view, bringing in new players helps maintain strong competition within the squad while injecting fresh energy and a different mentality.

“To keep winning, you have to make difficult decisions, be ambitious and believe that the arrival of new players brings different energy and a different mentality. That is the key to continuing to win,” Luis Enrique explained. This philosophy helps explain PSG’s activity in the summer transfer market, despite already having a highly competitive squad.

Luis Enrique also stressed that PSG remain extremely attractive. “A lot of players want to come to PSG,” he said. However, the Spaniard does not want to recruit based on talent alone, with mentality and the willingness to embrace his playing philosophy considered just as important.
The Paris coach therefore sent a very clear message to any player considering a move to the French capital. “If a player does not arrive with a smile and genuinely want to be here, it is better to have other options.” For Luis Enrique, desire, commitment and acceptance of the collective project matter just as much as technical quality.
