Kylian Mbappé has made a remarkable gesture by purchasing a painting of football legend Pelé for €520,000. However, this substantial amount was spent for a charitable cause.
The painting, titled “O REI” (meaning “The King” in Portuguese), measures 200×150 cm and was created by the contemporary artist Alexandre Hopare in 2023. The acquisition took place at an auction organized for the benefit of the Paris Saint-Germain Foundation, PARIS FOR GOOD, during a gala held on Thursday evening at Place Vendôme.
Initially priced at €5,000, the bidding for the painting attracted six buyers, ultimately narrowing down to a duel between Kylian Mbappé and his friend Achraf Hakimi. Mbappé emerged as the winning bidder, setting a record for the charity event with his purchase.
The €2.7 million raised during the gala will be entirely donated to charitable causes.
