PSG achieved a rather unfortunate record on Wednesday night against Newcastle: a 4-1 loss, the worst scoreline since 2017.

The Paris Saint-Germain defeat against Newcastle (1-4) will be remembered. Not only did the Parisian club concede four goals in a group stage match of the Champions League for the first time since 2001, but they also suffered their biggest Champions League defeat since the “Remontada” against FC Barcelona in 2017 (1-6).

Fortunately, the consequences of this debacle won’t be as severe as those of the 2017 event, as PSG remains second in their group after two matchdays.

It’s also worth noting that PSG hadn’t conceded four goals in a match since February 2020, in a draw against Amiens (4-4) in Ligue 1.
