Paris Saint-Germain have completely disrupted Ferran Torres’ future. Barcelona had planned to calmly discuss a contract extension with the forward after the transfer window, but PSG’s offer has forced the Catalan club to dramatically accelerate its timetable.
According to the Spanish press, PSG have already presented the Spain international with a sporting and financial proposal that Barcelona will find extremely difficult to match. The salary offered in Paris would be significantly higher, while Luis Enrique has reportedly promised Torres an important and clearly defined role in his project.
Luis Enrique and PSG’s Salary Offer Put Barcelona Under Pressure
Barcelona have therefore arranged an urgent meeting with Ferran Torres and his representatives to clarify his intentions and attempt to convince him to extend his contract. The talks were initially scheduled for September, partly because an earlier renewal could trigger an €8 million payment to Manchester City, but PSG’s intervention has changed those plans.
With only one year remaining on his contract, Torres now faces a major decision. Barcelona want to keep him but are only prepared to maintain his current salary and status, while PSG can offer him a substantial pay rise and stronger sporting guarantees. Luis Enrique’s personal involvement is also a major factor, as the coach values the forward’s versatility, efficiency and ability to play centrally or on either wing.
PSG have not yet opened direct negotiations with Barcelona and are reportedly waiting for Torres’ final approval before submitting an official bid. The Catalan club hope to receive around €50 million, but Paris consider that valuation excessive for a player entering the final year of his contract. Torres’ silence is now causing serious concern at Barcelona, with a move to PSG appearing more credible than ever.
