PSG can forget about Ibrahima Konaté. Considered one of the club’s top defensive targets, the French international has ultimately chosen Real Madrid, where he has signed until 2030 according to reports from RMC Sport. The transfer saga is now officially closed for the Parisian side.
A move to PSG is no longer an option for Konaté. Following Florentino Pérez’s re-election as Real Madrid president, the former Liverpool defender completed his free transfer on Monday, according to RMC Sport. The outcome comes as little surprise, with the door having already closed on a potential switch to Paris.
Marquinhos Set to Stay in Paris
While speculation continued to grow around Marquinhos’ future, the PSG captain has reportedly made a firm decision regarding his next step. After more than thirteen years at the club and two consecutive Champions League titles, some believed the Brazilian could be tempted by a move to Qatar or a final challenge elsewhere. PSG was not opposed to a departure if their captain requested one.
According to Abdellah Boulma, Marquinhos now intends to remain at Paris Saint-Germain for at least one more season. At 32, the defender believes he can still play an important role in Luis Enrique’s squad and does not want to leave the club at the peak of its success.
The final decision now rests with the PSG hierarchy, which must define the captain’s place in the project for the coming years. For the moment, however, a departure appears unlikely. As Konaté heads to Real Madrid, PSG could retain one of its greatest symbols, much to the delight of supporters already dreaming of a third Champions League triumph with Marquinhos leading the way.
