While Bradley Barcola and Désiré Doué impressed for France, Mbaye answered in style for Senegal. Introduced in the second half, the young PSG talent found the back of the net and once again showcased the immense potential he displayed throughout the season in Paris.

Mbaye Makes World Cup History

That goal made him the youngest African scorer in World Cup history at just 18 years and 142 days old. It is a remarkable achievement that sees him surpass legends such as Samuel Eto’o, who had to wait until the age of 21 to score his first World Cup goal, and Nigeria’s Julius Aghahowa, who found the net at 20 during the 2002 tournament.

Mbaye’s achievement does not stop there. Across all nations, he now ranks fourth among the youngest goalscorers in World Cup history. Only Pelé (17 years, 239 days), Manuel Rosas (18 years, 93 days), and Gavi (18 years, 110 days) remain ahead of him in the standings.

The PSG academy graduate has even outperformed several global superstars. At 18 years and 142 days old, he scored earlier in World Cup history than Lionel Messi, Jude Bellingham, and Kylian Mbappé. It is another sign that Paris Saint-Germain may have one of the brightest talents of his generation on their hands.
