According to Onze Mondial and The Athletic, Barcelona’s financial situation could actually accelerate negotiations. Extending his contract would reportedly force Barça to pay an additional €8 million bonus to Manchester City, his former club.
Barcelona Open to a Summer Transfer
With the club’s finances still under scrutiny, this clause could weigh heavily on the board’s decision. Selling Torres this summer would allow Barcelona to avoid the extra payment while collecting a substantial transfer fee. Hansi Flick and the sporting management would also be open to a departure if a satisfactory offer arrives.
