PSG fell to a 1-0 defeat against RC Lens in the Trophée des Champions. Despite playing with a man advantage for a long period after Kyllian Antonio was sent off in the 39th minute, Paris never managed to get back into the game. Florian Thauvin had given Lens the lead just a few minutes earlier.
It was a frustrating evening for Luis Enrique’s side, with Désiré Doué standing out while several other players disappointed, particularly in the decisive areas of the pitch. Doué was PSG’s best player, constantly looking to take on defenders and create openings. He nearly equalised just before half-time, but his shot from a tight angle struck the crossbar.
Doué shines as PSG struggle for efficiency
Doué continued to threaten after the break and combined well with Ousmane Dembélé, while Vitinha also produced another technically clean display in midfield. The Portuguese midfielder tried to increase the tempo and was involved in the move that led to Fabián Ruiz’s disallowed goal. Beraldo also delivered a solid performance in midfield, notably producing an excellent sliding tackle to stop Ivanovic during a dangerous Lens attack.
Among the flops, Nuno Mendes endured a nightmare ending after replacing Lucas Digne on the hour mark. The Portuguese full-back initially added energy but was sent off in the 87th minute after elbowing Skoras in the face. Illia Zabarnyi was also at fault for Lens’ goal, as his positioning kept Thauvin onside at the far post. Dembélé, meanwhile, wasted several major opportunities after coming on, including a volley from close range that he sent well over the bar.
Lucas Digne also struggled in his first start for PSG, making several technical errors and offering too little going forward before being replaced by Mendes after 60 minutes. Ultimately, Paris will mainly regret their lack of efficiency. Even with an eleven-versus-ten advantage for more than 50 minutes, PSG could not break down a determined Lens side, who held on for a 1-0 victory to lift the Trophée des Champions.
