The Spanish justice system is taking precautions for Dani Alves amid concerns over his mental well-being: the Brazilian, accused of rape, has been placed under anti-suicide surveillance.

Since January 2023, Alves has been behind bars following allegations of sexual assault in late December 2022 within the confines of a nightclub restroom. As he awaits the verdict of his trial, his fellow inmate, interviewed by Spanish television, reveals that Alves is grappling with profound psychological distress.

“Since the trial commenced, he has shown signs of depression and appears despondent. Prison educators and staff are offering him support. A suicide prevention protocol has been initiated as a precautionary measure, implemented immediately upon his return from court to mitigate any potential self-harm or reckless behavior,” disclosed the cellmate of the Brazilian defender.

It’s important to note that the former FC Barcelona player could face up to nine years of imprisonment if convicted.
