Former Paris Saint-Germain coach Arthur Jorge, who served from 1991 to 1994 and then from 1998 to 1999, has passed away this Thursday at the age of 78 after a long illness.

A former Portuguese striker and international player born in Porto, he left a mark in France through his coaching stints at Matra Racing (1987-1989), PSG where he won a French league title in 1994, and Créteil (2006-2007). Throughout his career, the Lusitanian also managed Benfica, Porto, and the Portuguese national team.

“It is with deep sadness that the family of Artur Jorge announces his passing this morning in Lisbon, after a long illness. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his closest family,” his entourage stated in an official announcement.
