The message from the French manager is clear: patience is needed, especially for players coming off a Champions League final. Dembélé may not have delivered his best performance in this warm-up match, but Deschamps is not concerned.

Deschamps Backs Dembélé Ahead of the World Cup

The France coach pointed out that the PSG forward joined the squad later than most of his teammates after an extremely demanding season. According to Deschamps, Dembélé is still building up his fitness as the 2026 World Cup approaches. “Ousmane arrived later than the others. With what lies ahead, it is normal for some players to manage their efforts. He needs to recover physically and mentally after his season with PSG. This match mainly helped him regain his rhythm,” Deschamps told TF1.

Deschamps also expressed satisfaction with the developing partnership between Dembélé and Michael Olise. He highlighted their ability to switch positions, create space, and unsettle compact defenses thanks to their technical qualities and tactical flexibility.

“Their complementarity is interesting. They can exchange positions and provide different solutions in attack. With their technical abilities, they offer several options and can operate in multiple areas of the pitch,” the France boss added.
