In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia reflected on PSG’s historic Champions League final victory over Inter Milan (5-0). The Georgian winger opened up about the mindset within the Parisian squad and the key factors behind a night that became part of football history.
On May 31, 2025, PSG finally reached the summit by winning the first Champions League title in the club’s history. According to Kvaratskhelia, the team’s greatest strength was the atmosphere inside the dressing room. “When we train, we enjoy being together. We work hard, and when we step onto the pitch, we know we are capable of anything. The most important thing is that we enjoy playing together,” explained the PSG star.
The Winning Formula Behind PSG’s Success
Before facing Inter Milan, the players knew they were up against a formidable opponent. “They are very strong defensively, on counterattacks, and from set pieces. We had to be ready to fight and stay extremely focused,” Kvaratskhelia said. Inside the dressing room, the mood was serious. “Everyone was calm and concentrated. There wasn’t much time for jokes. It was difficult to sleep.” He also recalled Marquinhos’ inspirational speech before kickoff, urging the squad to take one final step and make their dreams come true.
Tactically, Luis Enrique had delivered a clear message: impose PSG’s rhythm from the opening minutes. “Our strategy was to play in their half and be ready to press high to win the ball close to their box,” revealed Kvaratskhelia. Even after taking control of the match, PSG refused to slow down. “At 2-0, nothing was finished. We had seen Inter come back several times against Barcelona. The main reason we won 5-0 was because we kept attacking without stopping.”
The Georgian international, who scored PSG’s fourth goal, described the moment as unforgettable. “No Georgian had ever scored in a Champions League final. I really wanted to score. I was the happiest man in the world. I come from a small country, and I knew everyone back home was watching. I wanted to make them happy.” He also highlighted one of Luis Enrique’s tactical secrets: the attacking freedom given to players such as Ousmane Dembélé. “He can go wherever he wants on the pitch. When he leaves the center, someone else fills the space. We understand each other without speaking. That mobility makes it very difficult for opponents to press or defend against us.”
