PSG Keeps Pacho’s Return a Surprise

Paris Saint-Germain are continuing their gradual return to training. After the first group of players reported back to the PSG Campus on Monday, Luis Enrique’s staff are now preparing for the arrival of the internationals who took part in the World Cup.

PSG resumed training with a very small group on Monday, with only a handful of players present in Poissy. Willian Pacho was not among them. The defender is expected to be one of the next players to return, although the club wants to keep the exact date under wraps.

Pacho Expected Back Before PSG’s Senior Stars

According to L’Équipe, the Ecuadorian centre-back is due back later this week. Marquinhos, Vitinha, João Neves, Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes are expected next week, with their returns being managed carefully after a particularly demanding season and summer. Mendes will also undergo a medical assessment to evaluate his injury and determine his recovery programme.

Monday’s opening session was mainly devoted to medical checks, fitness tests and indoor work. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Matvey Safonov, Senny Mayulu, Illya Zabarnyi, Lucas Beraldo, Lucas Chevalier, Pedro “Dro” Fernández and Alessandro Longoni were among those expected, while academy players Boly, Lucea and Abo El Nay were also included. Quentin Ndjantou had already returned on July 17 to continue rebuilding his fitness after a lengthy absence.

Pacho should therefore be the next senior player to rejoin the squad, with Ibrahim Mbaye also likely to return in the coming days. Randal Kolo Muani and Renato Sanches, meanwhile, are set to remain with the reserve group while waiting for a move away, creating a small “loft” for players no longer in Luis Enrique’s plans. PSG’s individualised approach should reduce injury risks, although it will leave the returning internationals with limited preparation time before the season’s first major fixtures.
