Will Paris Saint-Germain let a huge opportunity slip away? Reportedly set to leave Manchester City, Rodri could be transferred for around €80 million. That fee looks remarkably low for a player of his calibre, even though Real Madrid now appear to have taken a significant lead in the race.
Could Rodri to PSG still become a reality? Contrary to initial reports, the Parisian club have not directly opened negotiations. According to PSG Inside Actus, the player, his agent and his entourage were the ones who approached PSG’s management to gauge their interest.
Rodri Looks Like an Exceptional Market Opportunity
Paris have therefore only been informed of the situation without launching an offensive. Yet at €80 million, the question deserves to be asked: can PSG really ignore such an opportunity to sign one of the best midfielders in the world? Recruiting another midfielder is not a priority for Luis Enrique, who already has Vitinha, João Neves, Fabián Ruiz, Warren Zaïre-Emery, Senny Mayulu and even Désiré Doué as possible options in that area.
Rodri nevertheless appears to be exactly the kind of exceptional opportunity PSG claim they would consider. According to David Ornstein, Real Madrid have already reached an agreement with the Spanish international on a four-year contract, with an additional season as an option. The Madrid club are now reportedly negotiating with Manchester City over a deal valued at around €80 million.
That price remains particularly attractive given Rodri’s quality, experience and influence in major matches. PSG have the financial resources and have already raised nearly €165 million through player sales, but the midfielder reportedly considers Real Madrid his preferred destination. Unless there is a spectacular twist, he should move to Madrid, although PSG may long wonder whether they should have made a serious attempt at such a low price.
