It is time for the big clash. France face Italy this Friday evening at the Stade de France, and Zinedine Zidane is expected to field a very Parisian-looking attack. Ousmane Dembélé and Désiré Doué are both tipped to start, while Maghnes Akliouche should begin the game on the bench.
After the matches against Turkey and Belgium, Zidane continues to experiment with his team. This time, however, a clear trend has emerged just hours before the Italy game: Dembélé and Doué are expected to line up together from kick-off, which will be welcome news for PSG supporters.
Olise, Dembélé and Doué to lead France’s attack
With Kylian Mbappé unavailable, Zidane is expected to entrust his attack to Michael Olise, Ousmane Dembélé and Désiré Doué. Dembélé should operate centrally, with Olise on the right and Doué on the left. The highly technical and mobile trio would give France plenty of opportunities to interchange positions. Dembélé was rested against Belgium, while Doué appears to have moved ahead of Bradley Barcola in the race for a starting spot. Zidane had already tested the Dembélé-Doué partnership in training.
Maghnes Akliouche, the third PSG representative in the squad, is expected to start on the bench. Called up to replace Warren Zaïre-Emery, the former Monaco player remains an interesting option during the game and has notably been tested as a right-sided midfielder since joining the France squad.
The most likely line-up is: Maignan – Koundé, Upamecano, Jacquet, Diouf – Cherki, Da Cunha, Rabiot – Olise, Dembélé, Doué. PSG should therefore have two representatives in the starting XI, with Dembélé and Doué directly tasked with making the difference in attack and giving France vs Italy a distinctly Parisian flavour.
