Paris Saint-Germain officially secured the 2026 French league title on Wednesday night after a 2-0 victory away to Lens.
PSG crowned champions at Lens: heroic Safonov, decisive Kvaratskhelia and Mbaye. In a boiling Stade Bollaert atmosphere, Luis Enrique’s men suffered for long periods against an aggressive and dominant Lens side, but they could rely on an outstanding Matvey Safonov and the attacking efficiency of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Mbaye.
Safonov Leads PSG to the Title
Lens constantly suffocated PSG’s build-up play with intense pressing. Chances piled up for the hosts through Édouard, Saïd and Sima, but Safonov produced one decisive save after another.
Eventually, PSG struck with one of their few major opportunities thanks to a Dembélé-Kvaratskhelia combination. The Georgian forward calmly finished past Risser in the 29th minute.
Mbaye completed the Parisian celebration late in the match. As Lens pushed for an equalizer, PSG killed the suspense on a lightning-fast counterattack. Désiré Doué perfectly set up Mbaye, who curled a superb strike into the top-right corner to spark wild celebrations on the Paris bench.
Safonov (9): an enormous performance from the Russian goalkeeper. Several decisive saves against Édouard, Saïd, Sangaré and Sima. Clearly PSG’s man of the match.
Mayulu (6): very active on the right flank despite some defensive struggles against Saint-Maximin. Full of energy and personality.
Zabarnyi (7): solid in duels and crucial during key moments. His intervention against Thomasson in the first half saved PSG.
Beraldo (6.5): a serious display from the Brazilian despite Lens’ constant pressure. Good distribution and important composure during difficult moments. Lucas
Hernandez (6): combative and aggressive in duels. He suffered physically but held his ground until the end.
João Neves (7): huge activity in midfield. Always available defensively and extremely valuable in breaking Lens’ pressing.
Dro Fernandez (6): the young midfielder showed promising technical qualities despite a difficult collective performance. Strong defensive effort throughout.
Désiré Doué (7.5): very active between the lines and delivered the assist for Mbaye’s goal. Another complete performance.
Barcola (5.5): a few interesting bursts forward but too quiet overall before being substituted.
Dembélé (7.5): extremely free offensively and constantly troubled Lens with his movement. Brilliant assist for Kvaratskhelia’s goal.
Kvaratskhelia (8): decisive once again in a major game. His goal launched PSG toward the title and his attacking activity caused huge problems.
The substitutes: Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz brought calmness in midfield, while Ramos, Mbaye and Lucea helped Paris control the end of the match. Mbaye perfectly finished the night with a superb counterattacking goal.
