The ongoing rivalry between Mbappé and Neymar is once again in the spotlight, as reports suggest that the French player asked for Neymar’s departure.
Neymar’s unexpected departure from PSG to Al-Hilal this week might not be as surprising as it seems. According to Sport, the two players have had a strained relationship since 2019, and Mbappé had already requested Neymar’s departure in May 2022 during contract negotiations.
It’s reported that Mbappé reiterated his demand for Neymar’s exit this summer. “During this summer, he issued a new ultimatum in which he asked the club to choose between him and Neymar,” writes Sport. “This information has reached the ears of the Brazilian,” the Spanish media outlet adds.
While Neymar’s departure seems to have been granted, Mbappé’s contract extension remains uncertain. The PSG is reportedly making every effort to secure it.
