The rumor about Antoine Griezmann has been confirmed: according to L’Equipe, PSG did indeed consider recruiting the French player.

There could have been another World Cup champion at PSG. According to L’Equipe, Paris attempted to sign Antoine Griezmann. With a release clause set at less than 25 million euros, the player wouldn’t have been too expensive for Paris.

“There were calls and contacts, but I was focused on my club,” Griezmann explained in a press conference on Wednesday. “I’m 15 goals away from the club’s all-time goals record (158 compared to 172 for Luis Aragonés). I told my sister (Maud, who manages his interests): ‘I’m not moving, I’m staying here, and I’m going to try to break the record.’… It took time for me to be reintegrated, now is not the time to leave,” he said.

PSG ultimately abandoned the pursuit due to the player’s high salary demands. However, L’Equipe adds that Saudi Arabia went to great lengths to bring him in, offering him a salary of over 50 million euros net per year. But Griezmann ultimately did not succumb to the lure of the Saudi Pro League.
